The project transforms the existing parking lot into a pedestrian public space that offers opportunities for lingering and social interaction. Currently, the public space is occupied by cars and does not provide conditions for spending time.
The minimalistic design of the newly proposed space redefines the triangular public square as a key node in the urban fabric through minimizing the visual clutter. The path of the ancient fortress wall underground is marked with a contrasting stone paving to reflect the presence of underground cultural heritage.
Given the site’s key location in the city, its representative character, and the presence of cultural layering, the project aims to have an impact beyond its immediate scope. In order to create a unified system of interconnected public spaces, long-term measures are recommended for the areas adjacent to the project site.
