Rødberg is a mountainous town surrounded by picturesque natural landscapes, yet most of its public space is covered in asphalt and dominated by cars. The town was developed around the hydropower plant Nore I, yet lacks an effective connection with the water. It is an outdoor activities area, a gateway to some of the most beautiful natural and cultural sceneries in Buskerud, yet has no liveable and attractive outdoor spaces for people to meet and spend time. We see all of these challenges also as vital potential for Rødberg’s future development as an attractive and productive hub and destination in the region.
Our vision
Make Rødberg a destination where people want to live, work, and enjoy their free time! Embrace the traditional productive landscape and history of Rødberg and Nore og Uvdal and unfold a sustainable development based on the synergy of various aspects of productiveness: residential, community, nature & ecology, mobility, technology, business, work, services, and leisure.
Our strategy
We propose a context-sensitive and people-oriented approach that builds upon the historical and contemporary assets of Rødberg. Our strategy is crafted around re-discovering the qualities and the resources of the town and the region and re-introducing them in the present life and environment for beneficial and sustainable future development. By introducing a variety and mix of uses, activities, buildings, and spaces, we aim to create proximities between the different faces of productiveness which can enrich life in the town and the region. We focus on 3 major pillars: Live – Work – Enjoy Rødberg.
We believe implementing the selected approach and the key interventions could activate Rødberg as a multi-purpose, liveable, and attractive destination.
