The work on “Sofia – a City for People” project continues

Gehl and place.make studio’s teams undertook a workshop on the “Sofia – a City for People” project held in Gehl’s office in Copenhagen between 12th and 15th of June. The workshop continues the work on the project which was started in Sofia by Gehl in the end of March 2017 initiated by the Mayor of Sofia Municipality Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova and the chief architect Mr. Zdravko Zdravkov. The aim of the Copenhagen visit was for place.make’s team to present the progress on data collection and processing which will serve as a base for developing a report with recommendations for the public spaces in the city centre of Sofia. We are thankful to all Sofia Municipality’s departments who provided the relevant data for their cooperation.

The following steps of the project and possible scenarios for future development of Sofia’s city centre were discussed in very positive working environment. These will be further developed into specific recommendations for practical measures and initiatives for the improvement of the urban environment. Successful practices from Copenhagen were presented to the team as part of a bicycle tour through the well-established and working bicycle and public space network.

We want to say thank you to Henriette Vamberg, Lisa Müller and Rosalia Svendsen and the whole Gehl’s team for the warm welcoming and the pleasant, productive and inspiring time spent with them!
